The flora of Epirus is characterized by the natural formation of the
fields and the conifer, deciduous and broadleaved trees. In addition,
there are plenty of fir, oak, beech and chestnut forests, as well as
riverside forests of platan and willow trees. The formation of
conifer trees is presented by the black pine, the Greek fir and
the hybrogenic fir. You will also find in our prefecture the
flowers lotus corniculatus, viola, crocus veluchensis,
dactulorisa saccifera, primula veris.
The wild fauna of Epirus is unique in Greece. Bears, wolves, foxes,
roebucks, deer and other animals live in the forests of Epirus.
There are plenty of raptors (hawks, eagles, silver pelicans,
pelicans) and other birds in the greater area. There are also
a lot of trouts, eels and mullets living in the fresh water of
the rivers and the lake of Ioannina.
