Ioannina by car should know that the road
network that leads to our city is quite
dangerous and if you are coming for the
first time you should be very careful.
The distance from Athens is 445 km via Patra, which is the
shortest way. The journey lasts for about 6 hours with a normal
average speed.
The distance from Thessaloniki is 260 km. The journey lasts for about 2 hours and 30 minutes with a normal average speed.
If you are coming from Italy via Igoumenitsa you should know
that the distance is 100 km whereas if you are coming from
Kastoria the distance is 221 km and you will come via Konitsa.
We should finally underline that if you are coming during
winter months nonslip chains are absolutely necessary!

to Ioannina by bus should know that
there are frequent itineraries from many
places and that the old buses that
usually gave you a headache have
been replaced lately by new luxurious
buses of the latest technology.
There are about ten itineraries every day from Athens
to Ioannina and vice versa by bus. The distance is 445 km
and it is covered in about 7 hours.
There are also daily itineraries from Thessaloniki
to Ioannina and vive versa, four in summer and
six in winter. The distance is 370 km and it is
covered in about 6 hours.
Finally, daily itineraries are also carried out to and from
Patra (3), Agrinio (6), Arta (10), Preveza (10),
Igoumenitsa (9) and other big cities.

Those of you who prefer the plane as
means of transport should know that
there are two to four flights every day
from Athens to Ioannina throughout
the year with Olympic Airways and
Aegean Airlines. The duration
of the flight is 45 minutes.
 
There are five flights a week in winter and daily
flights in summer from Thessaloniki to Ioannina.
The duration of the flight is 35 minutes.

Moving around in the center of Ioannina is quite convenient. The distances from place to place in the city are short, therefore the car is not necessary. But those of you who will decide to use it must know that the road network is good, but finding a space to park your car is quite difficult. There is a system of controlled parking on most of the main roads, but you will find parking areas in Orfeas, Sarka Stoa and Aravantinou.
You can also move easily by taxi. The taxis in Ioannina are dark green and
you will find them everywhere in the city 24 hours a day. There is also
a Radiotaxi Station for direct service.

Finally, the means of public transportation are very convenient as well.
The only negative point is that some of the buses date back to the
time of "good old Greek cinema", but we should underline that
they are always at the bus station on time. Local buses of
blue-white colour, which make transferring easy not only
in the city but also towards all the villages near Ioannina
start from the central square of the city.
