The
ancient theatre of Dodoni is built on
the foot of Mount Tomaros and it
is one
of the best-saved and biggest ancient
theatres. It was built around the 3rd
century b.C. when Pyrros, who made
radical changes to Dodoni, was the king
of Epirus. It has about 18.000 shuttles
and impresses everybody until today.

The
ancient tradition regarded the
Oracle of Dodoni as the most ancient
Greek oracle.
While the first adoration
appears to be that of the Goddess Earth,
the holy space was then dedicated
to Zeus. The ruins of the ancient
oracle with the holy oak dominating
among them are a spectacle that
exerts a strange secret force on
the visitor even today!!

Apart
from the ancient theatre and the
Oracle of Dodoni, which are the best-known
buildings, there are many other buildings
and monuments that were built in the holy
space. Most of them are saved nowadays,
not completely restored of course since they
have suffered serious destructions many
times over the centuries. Despite that,
they are worth visiting!

The
Municipality of Dodoni was formed
in 1998 in the frame of conjunction of all
communities according to "Kapodistrias"
Law. There are eleven villages that
belong
to the municipality, all very beautiful and
traditional, built according to the classical
Epirotic architecture. They are worth visiting
for their natural beauty and the cultural
monuments they have to demonstrate!
